Boissevain School proud member since 2003 |
In the 2002/03 school year, the ICT leader (M. Nantais), with assistance from the Tech Committee (in particular, S. Kleebaum), the Principal (A. Stewart) and the Division Superintendant (J. Storie), completed the application to join SchoolNet's Network of Innovative Schools. In August 2003, Mr. Nantais was informed of the successs of the application. In October of 2003, Mr. Allan Rock, Minister of Industry, announced the names of 36 schools that joined the network of leading schools in the application of information technology to learning. Boissevain was selected as one of the schools to join the 120 schools currently in the network.
Mr. Nantais, Mr. Storie, and Mr. Stewart travelled to Calgary to receive the award and to attend the Network of Innovative Schools Institute which was attended by over 300 educators from across Canada. The Institute is a professional development and networking forum to assist in integrating information technology into education.
In addition to receiving the professional development and networking information, Boissevain received a grant of $10,000 to assist in the integration of technology in the classroom. In 2004/05, the NIS program was discontinued, however, Boissevain School recieved a final $20,000 in ICT funding.

Two successful Grassroots Projects-grade 3/4 recycling and grade 8 science Two new "New Media" courses and web sites: Web Design & Development 31G and Multimedia 41G. More use of video as a learning and communication tool, including:
- Our third major movie "Thomas' Adventure" was a success!
- Four entries in the River Valley Student Video & Photography Contest, including the winner of the "High School Animation" Division!!!
- Stop motion movies depicting events in Canadian history collected on DVD in the History 30G class.
- Continuation of the senior 3 English Newscasts, "From the Halls of Boissevain School" shown on local access TV.
Purchase & installation of an Apple xserve, 25 licenses for PhotoShop CS and a site license for Macromedia Studio MX. Increased mentoring between Middle Years classes and Early Years classes in ICT skill development. Added 3 computers to Video Studio, for a total of 8 stations. Tech Tuesdays (PD) initiative started - a great success! Investigating Media Awareness - finding resources, planning inservicing and inclusion in all grade levels. Enhancements to school web site. Collaboration with other NIS schools: visitations and meetings with Manitoba Schools, a grade 1 collaboration with a school in Medicine Hat and Senior High collaboration with our friends in Grand Manan Community School in New Brunswick!
