Boissevain School was involved in a pilot project with Manitoba Education called “Schools, Families and Communities.” Each school in the project selected a project relating to this topic. The goal for our school was:

To facilitate communication between the school, families, and the community.

This goal was to be accomplished by providing programming for Access television. The programming will be produced by:

1. Senior three and four Transactional English students.
2. A volunteer committee in the school

The programming will involve students in all three areas of the school. Topics for programming will include:

• Curriculum information
• Special events scheduled in the school
• Student performances in the arts and sports
• Career information
• Parent Advisory Council meetings
• Information on parenting

The pilot project finished in 2000/01, however the rewards will be felt for many years. Several of the projects started under the SFC Pilot are continuing and will help strengthen the ties between Boissevain School and the Community. A special award was presented to Boissevain School by Manitoba Education, the trophy is shown below and is displayed in the school.
