Background to the Connections Project

The Connections Project was established in Boissevain School more than five years ago. It began with staff discussing ways in which school could be made more relevant and meaningful for students. What started as a discussion lead to a review of how other schools were attempting to connect the curriculum to jobs and the community. Several staff visited schools as far away as Alberta as they attempted to refine their idea.

In the fall of 1995, the first Connections Project was launched. The goals they established have remained unchanged. The Connections Project has given Boissevain Collegiate students a chance to work on a project that connects multiple disciplines and is a practical topic of real interest to them.

The Connections projects have connected topics as diverse a dog training (for English and word processing) to the making of a barbeque connecting metals shop and desktop publishing. One group of students connected the entrepreneurial spirit, making herbal potions and lotions, with business, computer applications and marketing.

The Connections Project successfully connects the skills we teach in school to everyday life.
