SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

To educate students with the skills to be responsible, contributing adults with a positive attitude for life and learning, aquired in a safe and secure environment.

In the 2006/2007 school year, the staff of Boissevain School decided to embrace the "4 Pillars" from Sandra Dean's "Together We Light the Way" program. The 4 pillars: Respect, Academic, Teamwork and Leadership form the framework for our activities at Boissevain School. The 4 pillars also form the basis of our school improvement plan activities.

The Respect pillar is a key to the culture of our school and is the essence of the "Bronco Spirit".   Our school-wide respect agreement was created with input from staff and students.   It consists of the following 5 statements;

  • We interact respectfully.
  • We respect ourselves and others.
  • We focus on the positive.
  • We respect property.
  • We do our best!

School Goals

  1. To ensure that students and staff operate within a safe and secure environment.
  2. To provide an opportunity for students to realize their academic potential.
  3. Staff will receive training and development to meet Manitoba Education requirements.
  4. To communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and community
  5. To foster and develop a positive school climate.

Healthy School Plan (Nutrition Plan)

Students in our school need healthy food for growth and development.

  • Students will be taught the principles of healthy eating as part of the school program.
  • The meals and snacks students bring to school should provide them with the energy required to learn and be physically active.
  • Students will also learn from adult role models.
  • Our school environment will support this learning by promoting nutritious food choices in the canteen and vending machines.
  • The Healthy Schools Committee will review the work done towards offering healthier food options.
  • Policies/activities which may be implemented are:
    • No Fried Food Thursdays
    • No Pop for K-8 and Choice for High School
    • Fun and Fit Week
    • Healthy Snack/Lunch Rewards
    • Manitoba Guidelines for foods available at school

This plan does not impact on lunches and snacks students or staff members bring from home.   It is anticipated that this plan will encourage students and staff to being thinking about their healthier food choices in their day-to-day life, both in and out of school. Using the Healthy School Plan will also provide our students with more of an opportunity to strive to be more physically active.
