2008 Boissevain School Newsletter
Welcome
Back!
Another school year is here. Please come out
and get involved - come out to PAC meetings, concerts, sporting events and
other activities! Together we can make this a successful year.
A great way to keep informed about the school
is through our web site at: www.tmsd.mb.ca/boissevain.
Please visit it often. You will find a wealth of information, including
upcoming events, announcements, cafeteria menus and the Student Handbooks for
all three sections of the school.
CHANGES FOR 08/09
There are a few staff changes this year. We welcome two new Educational
Assistants, Jo-Anne Neufeld and Carol Witherspoon. Teaching changes include Mrs. Cassandra Sprott
taking over K – 5 Music as Mrs. McAuley is now
teaching half time in Killarney. Also, Mrs. Lisa Aikenhead
will be teaching High School Chemistry and Phyics as
Mrs. Leisa Halloran is on
maternity leave. Mr. Sheldon Wettig will be teaching
Math and ICT in the High School.
The final change is that Mr. Brad White will be replacing Mr. Nantais as Principal of Boissevain School. Mr. Nantais
has taken a teaching position with Brandon University which means we should
refer to Mr. Nantais as Professor Nantais.
Many teachers have new
assignments. See the school web site for a complete staff list.
Over the summer our Custodial Staff have
prepared the school for the upcoming start to the school year. New Flooring has been the main focus
for the last two weeks as two classrooms, two resource rooms and the office
have new tile or carpet.
The focus for Boissevain School for this year
will be to:
1.
Accentuate
the positive.
2.
Build
and help build relationships.
3. Continue to support the work being done with the 4 pillars
4. Continue to build the communication between school and home
Initiatives for staff to investigate will be on
assessment, professional learning communities and curriculum implementation and
development.
PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL
The Parent Advisory Council or PAC meets the
second Monday of each month in the school Home Ec room at 7:30 pm. The first
meeting is tentatively set for September 15.
FALL FAMILY KICKOFF
The Fall Kick-Off will take place for the second year with the hopes that Families will have a chance to meet all of their registration needs and to gather information about the various programs in and around Boissevain! From 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 9, parents will have a chance to meet their childrenŐs teachers/advisors, register for fall and winter community activities, pay school fees, and grab a hamburger or hot dog for supper!
As there will be no formal introduction of teachers, parents can drop by the large gym any time between 5:00 and 7:00, meet their childrenŐs teachers, and pick up registration forms and other school materials. Band, Music Boosters instrument rentals, shops, home ec. and graduation fees may be paid that evening as well. There will be a few draws made at the end of the Kick off with one in particular for those paying band, home ec and shops fees that evening, and fees will be ŇfreeÓ for the lucky winners.
Several community organizations (see ad elsewhere in this paper) will be in attendance to do their registrations so please plan to attend and take advantage of this evening!

REMINDER ~ NUT & FISH PRODUCTS
Just a reminder that Boissevain School is
striving to keep nut and fish products out of our school for the safety of our
staff and students. Please help us by not sending these types of products to
the school.
Please remember that the school is not open to
students before 8:15 in the morning.
Those students who arrive earlier are unsupervised therefore we are
asking for your cooperation. There
are scheduled events before 8:15 am and students participating in these events
are supervised. Thank You!
