Boissevain School Newsletter
Welcome Back!
The 2009/2010 school year is here. We encourage all of you to
visit the school - come out to PAC meetings, concerts, sporting events, Student
Led Conferences and other activities! Students and staff are thrilled to see
you in attendance when these events take place.
A great way to keep informed about the school is through our web
site at: boissevainschool.ca. Please visit it often. You will find a wealth of
information, including events posted on the calendar, cafeteria menus and eventually,
the Student Handbooks for all three sections of the school.
CHANGES FOR 2009/10
There are a few staff changes this year as we welcome two teaching
staff. Sonia Stewart will be
teaching half time Grade One and Lyall McFarlane will be teaching a combination
of High School classes and Middle Years classes. We would also like to welcome Val McCallum as Boissevain
SchoolÕs Food Services Coordinator.
Over the summer, our Custodial Staff have prepared the school for
the upcoming start to the school year.
The floors look in great shape as this is the first thing people notice
when they walk into the school.
Some painting has taken place in the school, most notably, the stripe in
the gymnasium looks great.
Boissevain School will work at building positive relationships
along with continued communication between school and home. There will be a focus on student
assessment as staff has begun to look at implementing positive changes.
PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL
The Parent Advisory Council or PAC meets the second Monday of each
month in the school Home Ec room at 7:30 pm. The first meeting is tentatively
set for September 14.
FALL FAMILY KICK-OFF
The Fall Kick-Off will take place for the third year with the hopes that families will have a chance to meet all of their registration needs and to gather information about the various programs in and around Boissevain! From 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 15, parents will have a chance to meet their childrenÕs teachers/advisors, register for fall and winter community activities, pay school fees, and grab a hamburger or hot dog for supper!
As there will be no formal introduction of teachers, parents can drop by the large gym any time between 5:00 and 7:00, meet their childrenÕs teachers, and pick up registration forms and other school materials. Band, Music Boosters instrument rentals, shops, home ec. and graduation fees may be paid that evening as well. There will be a few draws made at the end of the Kick off with one in particular for those paying band, home ec and shops fees that evening, and fees will be ÒfreeÓ for the lucky winners.
Several community organizations (see ad elsewhere in this paper) will be in attendance to do their registrations, so please plan to attend and take advantage of this evening!
TERRY FOX
This yearÕs Terry Fox Activities will be held on Thursday,
September 24. Mr. Shawn Kleebaum leads the event organizing committee that will
get together the first day back.
SCHOOL PICTURES
School photos will again be taken by GrayÕs Photo.
ATHLETICS
Many students have been keeping busy over the summer and now have
started practicing volleyball in preparation for the upcoming season. Tournaments begin in September with
league play to start the first of October.
MAGAZINES
One of our major fundraisers is the magazine drive. This important
campaign will take place in October. The profits from this fundraiser help
support student activities, including athletics and student government events.
We look forward to your support.
USER FEES
Course user fees are due as soon as possible. Students with
outstanding user fees will not be allowed to take part in activities requiring
the materials these fees pay for. Please pay at the Fall Kick-Off, as described
earlier, or at the office. If anyone has difficulties meeting the deadline,
please make alternate arrangements with the administration.
BOOK FAIR
Please mark October 15,16,19,20 for the annual Book Fair sponsored
by the School Library. More
details will follow in the October newsletter.
CAFETERIA
The school cafeteria will be open for business on Monday,
September 14th with Mrs. Val McCallum taking on the responsibility. We look forward to Mrs. McCallumÕs
varied menus and healthy food.
ATTENTION:
PARENTS OF BRONCO ATHLETES
User fee receipts will be issued at the time coaches remit their
team fees to the Finance Department.
The Finance Ministers will deliver receipts to each athlete at this
time. We encourage you keep this
copy in your files for Income Tax purposes to eliminate the need to reissue
receipts. Thank you for your
cooperation.
REMINDERS ÉÉ.
Just a reminder that Boissevain School is striving to keep nut and
fish products out of our school for the safety of our staff and students.
Please help us by not sending these types of products to the school.
Recycling continues to be an important part of Boissevain School
as there are many blue boxes around the school. Thank you to the custodial staff, who work hard at
separating all recyclable material, and to all students, staff and visitors for
participating in the recycling program.
The North Parking Lot is designated for School Buses, kindergarten
pickup at lunch and all vehicles after school. The South Parking Lot is for students, staff, parents and
visitors. Please remember that
vehicles can stop in the lane closest to the cement dividers to allow the
driver to run into the school quickly.
The other two lanes are for pickup only and drivers should stay in the
vehicles and keep lines moving smoothly. Please move to the front of the lanes
when the opportunity arrives. All
drivers are encouraged to park responsibly to ensure the safety of everyone in
the area.
Please remember that it is very important for parents to call the
school when their child will be away.
Kindergarten to Grade 8 staff take attendance in the morning and
afternoon and the attendance coordinator will call your home if your child is
unaccounted for. This ensures that
the students of Boissevain School are safe.
Please remember that the school is not open to students before
8:15 a.m. in the morning. Those
students who arrive earlier are unsupervised therefore we are asking for your
cooperation. There are scheduled
events before 8:15 a.m. and students participating in these events are
supervised. Thank You!
