STUDENT GOVERNMENT
by C. Dyck
Our Student Government year has been very successful. I am using the past tense, as it is coming to a close. We hosted the first ever "Midnight Madness". It was a rousing success, and I am sure we will have a repeat of this event next year! A round of applause to the students who put in all the time to get this together. We had our first ever band "send off" for the students who traveled to Edmonton. It was a wild game of musical mats (no chairs on the gym floor!), for the band students. The rest of the school watched and cheered them on. We also celebrated "Bucky's Birthday". Bucky is the mascot you see at all the school events. I'm not sure how old he is. He doesn't really say too much! Our last "Hurrahs" were the send off for the track participants, and the girls Fastball team. We had a rousing game of garbage can baseball in which the girls could show off their skills, and we learned a few cheers for the day itself. On the same day, we presented Fire Chief Martin Paradis with a cheque for $900, which had been raised throughout the year. The students worked hard to raise this money, and we were pleased to be able to present it to the Boissevain Fire Fighters in person. The last "official" event for this yearÕs group is the Prom. It will be held on June the 10th, and we are hoping for a great turnout, as it is the last time the whole high school can get together for an evening. We have next yearÕs executive in place. I can't believe we are done another year. I have had a wonderful time with this group. They have been creative, energetic, and have kept us "pumped" with their new ideas. As much as I will miss the students from this year, I do look forward to starting it all again with the next group. I haven't had a bad one yet! Thank you again to all the students who participated in Student Government. We couldn't do it without you!

CELEBRATING INTERNSHIPS
The success of Career and Technology Studies and in particular, our Internship Program, depends largely on the cooperation of our business owners and staff. The 2008-2009 Interns said Thank you to their Sponsors by serving them lunch on May 14, 2009. We celebrated together as the first year of the Career and Technology Studies program at Boissevain School draws to a close.
This method of study, where the school and the community provide a unique educational opportunity for each participating student, is only successful with community participation.
