Reports will be distributed to students on April 13 with Parent/Teacher interviews on April 15 from 6 – 8 p.m. If you are not scheduled for an interview, but would like one, be sure to contact your son/daughterÕs teacher.

STUDENT LED CONFERENCES (K - 8)

Student Led Conferences for all grades K - 8 students are on April 15 from 6 - 8 p.m.  Be sure to come out and share your studentÕs learning!

Note: Student Led Conferences have been in existence over the past four years.  The goal of the conference is to allow time for parents to view their childrens work in the school environment.  It is important that the students lead the conference as they are reminded it is their work that they want to show their parents.  Sometimes it is the only time that parents makes contact with the teachers as they may not be involved in Parent/Teacher interviews or see school staff on other occasions.  The success of Student Led Conferences is the result of the parent and the child.  Thank you for your continued support with Student Led Conferences.

ABSOLUTE

On Tuesday, March 17, Boissevain School was host to a group called Absolute who presented to Grades 5 - 12 students. Absolute Leadership Development is a not-for-profit organization that exists to empower emerging generations to live with purpose and change their world. The first hour of the morning saw the eight member group perform modern band music, sent messages through testimonials and involved some audience members in their presentation.

Absolute provided two additional workshops throughout the morning.  The first workshop involved Student Government members from Grades 5 to 12 and focused on humanitarianism.  Boissevain School Peer Helpers participated in the next workshop that discussed self worth.

The Absolute Leadership members were from across Canada and had a busy schedule as they were headed to Flin Flon and then on to Saskatoon.

SCHOOL LOOSELEAFÉÉ.

à On Monday, February 23, the Grades 1 & 2 students were invited to Minto School for a friendship morning with Mrs. HarperÕs and Mrs. StewartÕs classes. After we arrived Grade 1's went to the skating rink with Mrs. HarperÕs class and Grade 2's went into the school to make a craft and then we had a snack and switched. Grade 1Õs made friendship necklaces and heart boxes and Grade 2's painted Friendship Stick Bands. We got into groups of three and four to paint different colors on our sticks. When they were dry, we attached them to our backpacks as reminders of the friends we made on our outing. Thanks to Minto School staff and students who made us feel most welcome.

à The Boissevain School Band is taking their show on the road as they attend the Cantando Music Festival in Edmonton.  The band leaves April 25 and returns April 29.

à A number of Grades 11 & 12 students were European Travelers over the Spring Break.

à It was nice to read in last weekÕs Recorder that up to 15 former Bronco Hockey Players were on the Boissevain Border Kings roster.

à Please check out the Primary (K-4) Student Achievement Bulletin Board – it displays a variety of student successes.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT

by Ms. C. Dyck

Spring has sprung??? Well, we are going to pretend it has, and continue celebrating. Last month we had a very successful Spirit Week, finishing off with the 2nd annual Bucky Awards. A lot of work goes into the week itself, and the awards include a power point presentation of the winners. The week is to try and shake off the winter blues, and the awards are to throw a spotlight on some of our cleverly hidden, but talented students.  This month the highlight will most likely be the Midnight Madness on Wednesday, April 22. This is a new activity and the students are looking forward to putting it together, and participating in it as well. We also hope to plan a birthday party for "Bucky" the school mascot, but don't say anything! It's a surprise.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school and we are thrilled to offer this literary event to our students.  We invite your entire family to participate by purchasing the latest and greatest in childrenÕs books.  Did you know that for every $10 you spend at the Book Fair, up to $6 in product profit goes directly back to our school?  Your support of this event is key to our obtaining new resources for our library and school.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM ~ Òbecause education & training is part of good business practiceÓ

Work Site ~ Boissevain Hospital

Co-operating Employer ~ Melanie Beard

Intern ~ Jade Urschatz

What motivated you to pursue this particular career pathway?

I want to help people in my future workplace.  Listening to my mom talk about her occupation as a Licensed Practical Nurse inspired me to participate in an Internship at the Boissevain Hospital.

What personal skill do you think is most important when working in a Personal Care Home?

I think patience and a forgiving nature are really important when working with the elderly.  Personal Care is home for residents and I want to do what I can to make their life the best it can be.

How will this experience assist you with your future career planning?

This experience is showing me that you need more knowledge than what is taught in the traditional classroom.  Skills obtained at the worksite, such as; making network cables and trouble shooting will better prepare me for a job in this area.  Many people who go into Technician courses are not aware of these skills.
